About Barbara

Passion for Teaching

Each transition in my own life, large and small, has served as a springboard for the development of my teaching, career management, coaching, presentation/workshop and personal growth skills.

Individual Coaching

Today I bring my passion for teaching to my clients as they learn how to understand and manage their own challenges--to find the opportunities that change can bring.   In this "classroom without walls," I specialize in coaching individuals on leadership, life and career management areas.  The encouragement, support and challenge inherent in  my partnership with individual clients enables them to live more fulfilling everyday lives and to be even more productive on the job.  Most of my coaching is done face-to-face and some is conducted on the telephone.  I have met some of my telephone clients; others are scattered throughout the country.  Although I have never had the privilege of meeting these clients face to face, I feel I know them very well.

Organizational Consulting, Workshops & Presentations

In my work with organizations, I have created and presented workshops for trainers, implemented orientation programs for new hires, evaluated workshop effectiveness for organizations, and designed, developed and presented corporate training on a wide variety of workplace areas.  Please visit my Presentations and Workshops page for detailed descriptions of my corporate and organizational offerings.  In addition, I welcome the opportunity to develop and make presentations on topics geared specifically to an organization's needs.

Background

My background includes over 20 years experience in education, training, and career management services.  This includes coaching  individuals, facilitating groups, creating and leading career and life management workshops, and serving as guest speaker for numerous organizations.

I hold a B.A. in sociology/psychology from Boston University and an M.Ed.. from Tufts University.  In addition, I am also certified to administer, score and interpret the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®.  Currently, I am an adjunct faculty member at Prince George's (MD) Community College and am a member of the Metropolitan Area (Washington, DC) Career/Life Planning Network.  I serve as an ICAN career advisor with the Women's Center, Vienna, VA, and as a member of the Community of Coaches of the Women's Business Center of Northern Virginia.  I also serve as a resource career coach for www.indeed.com and have been a resource for career-related articles in newspapers such as The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Washington Business Journal, Northern Virginia Magazine and others.  My television credits include appearing on local programs in Reston, VA, and on Retirement Living TV's The Prudent Advisor which airs on The Comcast Network and Direct TV.
